Food for Afghans

The U.N. reports that nearly 95 percent of Afghans are not eating enough with children being the most vulnerable to acute starvation. We are sponsoring iftars and any extra funds will create meal kits in Afghanistan.

Last year, we distributed food packages for about 500+ people who were coming at the house (they were usually getting for 2-4 people). Food was distributed at the Masjid for about 200+ people and about 500 packages were distributed to different parts of the city every day. On average, we reached 2500 people a day.

As you are all aware, the situation in Afghanistan is dire economically and is getting worse, so this year we are planning to do for even more recipients. The cost of 1 night of iftar dinner and food packages in Kabul is about $2000. Anyone could participate for any amount or portion. All the iftar contributions will be gathered in a pool and spent accordingly.

If any amount in excess remains, it shall be added to the Ramadan packages that we will be distributing to the needy families during the holy month of Ramadan. Last Ramadan we distributed 386 packages of food items which included, rice, flour, cooking oil, sugar, tea, beans and chocolates which were sufficient for 1 month basic food items for a family of 4-6 people.
